The Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy Note8 have a nifty menu which let us set custom DPI values. This feature lets you have more content on your screen. Unlike the display settings, it not only reduces the font size but also reduces the overall size of the icons. Here, we’re presenting a detailed guide on how to change your Galaxy Note8’s screen resolution without root.

Step 1: Enable the Developer Options

To enable the hidden Developer options, head over to Settings of your Galaxy S8 or Note8 and navigate to About Phone > Software Information. Here, tap the Build Number option 7 times until you see a notification saying that the Developer options have been enabled at the bottom of the screen. The Developer options menu can now be found under the Settings menu.

Step 2: Search for Minimum Width

Once Developer options has been enabled, tap on it and scroll down till you reach Minimum Width in the Drawing section. Alternatively, you can search for the term. Tapping on it will fetch the default DPI or the screen resolution of your phone. Since both the Samsung Note8 and S8 have bigger screens, the stock DPI is set at 411 and 360 respectively. Now, all you need to do is replace it with a new value.

Step 3: Set the DPI Value

As we mentioned earlier, the DPI has to be between 120 and 640. Choosing a lower DPI value for your Note8 will result in huge icons while increasing it will produce smaller icons. Experiment with the DPI values until you come with a value, which sits perfectly on your phone. The best way to come to your ideal resolution is by increasing/decreasing the value in multiples of 20-30. The DPI value on my Galaxy Note8 is set to 520. The font size isn’t so tiny that I have to squint my eyes to see the screen and, at the same time, I can fit a number of icons on my home screen. The only issue, which you may have, is that the keyboard size will decrease along with the icon size and the font size. So, the idea is to achieve the perfect balance among the three.

Get the Most Out of Your Galaxy Note8/S8

So, this was how you can get custom screen resolution on your Samsung Galaxy Note8 and Galaxy S8 without root. The best thing about this feature is that the changes can be seen in real time, unlike the ADB method, which needs a reboot every time you enter a new number. So, which value did you choose?
