On paper, the Gear Fit2 Pro is only slightly better than the Gear Fit2, which was launched last year at Rs 15,000 (around $237). The Gear Fit2 Pro, which launched in August is now swim-proof and can withstand 5 ATM underwater. It even has Spotify integration and inbuilt GPS. The Gear Fit2 Pro was launched at a price of Rs 13,590 (around $215), which hasn’t changed yet. Incidentally, the Gear Fit 2 is now available for Rs 11,900 (around $187), which is a solid Rs 1,690 (around $28) less than the Gear Fit2 Pro. So, what we really need to understand here is whether that price difference is worth the extra features that are being offered with the Gear Fit2 Pro.

How it Looks

To begin with, we shall talk about the impression of the device out of the box. At first glance, the device looks just as sleek and attractive as its previous iteration. There are no visual changes, which does not necessarily mean that it is a bad thing. Samsung had hit a sweet spot with the previous version and decided to stick with it. The device features a crisp 1.5-inch Super AMOLED curved screen with 216×432 resolution. And I had no problem with the visibility even under bright sunlight. The strap with the classic clasp looks well-paired and seamless with the black body. The device has a home button and a back button on the right panel.

How it Performs

Underneath the skin, the fitness tracker has a 500MB RAM and 4GB internal memory where you can store music and apps and watch faces. It runs Tizen and supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n 2.4 GHz along with Bluetooth v4.2. In terms of sensors, it features Accelerometer, Barometer, Gyro Sensor, HR Sensor. After using the device for a week it seems obvious that Samsung has made this device with convenience during workout and physical activities in mind. The Gear Fit2 Pro come built with a GPS tracker that works even without the phone. It has internal memory, which stores music to be streamed to my Bluetooth headphones. Samsung has even strengthened the regular IP68 rating and that made sure the band can survive in 5 ATM underwater. This makes the device ideal to be used while swimming. I feel that the most unique feature of the device would be the native support for the Spotify app. Users can download music to the Gear Fit2 Pro and play it even when they don’t have the phone with them. The UI in the Tizen OS is rather easy to use with all the important information available at the swipe of a finger. It even comes with a Find my phone function. The 200mAh battery lasts for about 48 hours with regular use and even alternate use of GPS mode with a longer standby time.

Final Thought

In summary, Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro is undoubtedly a great device for people who work out on a regular basis. This device absolutely eliminated the need for a smartphone during exercise. But this is questionable when we consider the price it is coming for. Personally, I believe that the device is only worthwhile if people can regularly use the exclusive features like GPS and Spotify and water proofing capabilities.
