By this way, you can visit places you normally wouldn’t get to (or places you plan on going at some point), and that too from the comfort of your home. Isn’t that cool? There are a lot of great sights to behold on Google Street View and I have picked ten breathtaking ones for your virtual sightseeing.

1. Grand Canyon

I’ll start with one of the places that people from outside the US rarely get to pay a visit to – the amazing Grand Canyon on the Colorado River. Google Street View offers a lot of awesome imagery, including the ability to float down the river and look at the rock walls surrounding you. Try it below.

2. The Mary Celeste Wreck

The fact that the service is called Street View doesn’t mean it can’t offer underwater trips and one of the greatest that I’ve come across is the wreck of the Marie Celeste, a paddle steamer which sunk in 1864 in the Caribbean Sea. Of course, you can’t really expect to see the actual ship, but it’s still fascinating to move around what’s left of it.

3. The Burj Khalifa

I have to admit that I’m pretty afraid of heights, but that has never stopped me from going atop a skyscraper that I may have come across during my travels. I’ve never been to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. So, I decided to pay a visit to it through Google Street View. This tallest man-made structure is certainly a sight to see, and Google Street View offers quite a few options in that direction. My favorite is this view from the maintenance area on the 73rd floor of the 828 meter building. Check it out below.

4. The Large Hadron Collider at CERN

Remember a few years ago when this huge device at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (or CERN) in Geneva made all that news? Well, you can now take a look at the device and try to figure out what the whole fuss was about. You can take a walk and see how things feel like inside CERN.

5. Hashima Island

This is all nice, but how about some silence? Complete silence, since you’ll be visiting Hashima Island, a former coal mining facility with a small city around it. The island has been completely uninhabited since 1974, apart from the explorers making their way to it from time to time. If ghostly ruins are your thing, it doesn’t get better than this. Oh, and I should tell you that this is where Javier Bardem’s character in the James Bond movie Skyfall had his headquarters.

6. Cinque Terre

This beautiful coast of the Italian Riviera is fascinating especially because of the terraces which the locals have built on the landscape. I can’t begin to describe how beautiful this tourist destination looks. The five villages comprising it have pathways between them, with no access for cars. Visit it below.

7. The River Thames, London

I couldn’t resist mentioning one of my favorite cities in the world, London, where Google Street View offers you the possibility to take a cruise ride on the river Thames. Even if you’ve visited London a few times (or even live there), seeing it from a boat on the Thames is something spectacular.

8. The Eiffel Tower

This is one you can’t miss. The view of the city of Paris you get from the top of the Eiffel Tower is something you just need to experience. I’m sure, these views will convince you to go and see how beautiful the city of Paris is in real life (if you haven’t already done so).

9. Venice

Another classic tourist destination, another city that lovers adore; Venice is one of the most beautiful places in the world. The Google Street View team has done its best to capture this amazing city in all its glory. A great place to start your trip is on the canal, in front of the Doge’s Palace.

10. HMS Ocelot

My last choice can be considered a bit strange by some people. It’s the HMS Ocelot, a submarine that sits in the Chatham Istoric Dockyard in England and can be visited by tourists. If you always wanted to see what a submarine looks like on the inside, Google Street View has granted your wish (hint: it’s quite claustrophobia-inducing). HMS Ocelot is a 51-year old ship; so, things inside it can be very interesting. Personally, I found it fascinating.

Bottom Line

Google Street View is a great place to look into if you want to find a great spot for a vacation, or if you just want to waste some time looking at incredible things. These were my choices in terms of awesome places to visit on the service. Have you explored more on Street View? Do share.
